NYSACAC 2014

Mega Session One:

“Say Yes to Education: A New York Nonprofit Organization’s Quest to Make Higher Education Affordable and Attainable for Every Public School Graduate in a City”

Jacques Steinberg, NY Times “The Choice” Blogger, Author of The Gatekeepers, and Say Yes to Education
Erin Corbett, Scholarship Director, Say Yes National
Allison Newman, Scholarship Director, Say Yes Buffalo
Ahmeed Turner, Scholarship Director, Say Yes Syracuse

What drew President Obama to Buffalo and Syracuse in the summer of 2013? The answer, at least in part, was the pioneering work of Say Yes to Education, the NYC-based nonprofit that makes it possible for every public school graduate in those two cities (and soon, perhaps, in other cities too) to attend an in-state public university tuition-free. Depending on family income, those students may also be eligible for a tuition-free education at the more than 60 private colleges and universities in the growing Say Yes Higher Education Compact. Learn how one organization in our own state is becoming a model in transforming education.

Mega Session Two:

“The Common Application: Restoring Confidence, Moving Forward”

Scott Anderson, Senior Director for Policy, Common Application
Heidi Green, Director of Counseling Services, Fayetteville-Manlius High School

The Common Application has a 40 year history of service to applicants, counselors, and member colleges. This past year challenged the association and its stakeholders. As the second year of a new application system approaches, members of the Common App staff and Board of Directors will explain how they are responding to feedback and provide an update on coming changes for the membership association as it approaches its fifth decade of service.

Mega Session Three:

“The Redesigned SAT: Delivering Opportunity for Readiness, Access, and Success”

David Coleman, President, College Board

Join David Coleman, president of the College Board, for a conversation about the redesigned SAT and the College Board’s commitment to propelling students forward into the opportunities they have earned.  Participate in a discussion about delivering opportunity, ask questions about the redesign and get answers from one of the most influential leaders in education today.
